We provide core and non-core vaccines for cats that were designed specifically for felines. Charlottesville Cat Care Clinic is dedicated to providing your cat a quiet, stress-free space for his or her visit, which is why we are a cat-only veterinary clinic!
Core Cat Vaccines
All cats, regardless of lifestyle, should receive the core cat vaccinations from our cat vet. Core cat vaccinations include rabies, panleukopenia, rhinotracheitis and calicivirus. Rabies is required by state law for all cats. Rabies is transmitted through the saliva of cats, and once infected, there is no cure. Vaccination is the only prevention against rabies.
Non-Core Cat Vaccines
Non-core cat vaccines are recommended for cats that are considered high-risk. These are cats that frequently come into contact with other cats, are let outside unsupervised, or who are frequently boarded. The non-core cat vaccine we provide is feline leukemia for our outdoor patients under 10 years of age .
Our Charlottesville Cat Vaccination Schedules
- 6 to 8 Weeks of Age — Kittens should receive their first round of vaccinations, including calicivirus, rhinotracheitis and panleukopenia (FVRCP), between the ages of 6 and 8 weeks. We use an intranasal product to provide a local and systemic sense of immunity.
- 9 to 12 Weeks of Age — Kittens should receive another round of the combination vaccine (FVRCP) every 3-4 weeks until they reach 16 weeks. Feline Leukemia Virus vaccines can begin at 9 weeks. A second vaccine is required 3-4 weeks later.
- 3 Months Old — Kittens are legally able to receive the rabies vaccination at 12 weeks. We typically wait until the last FVRCP is administered at 16 weeks.
- 4 to 5 Months Old — Kittens should receive their last dose of the combination vaccine, rabies vaccine, and have a test for Feline Leukemia and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus.
- Adult Cats – Adult cats should receive boosters on their rabies vaccine and Feline Leukemia vaccine (if going outside) every 12 months unless otherwise directed by the veterinarian.
